Private Duck Pond
A few years ago I hired an excavator to dredge out a dried out pothole on a piece of wildlife habitat that I had purchased. The result is a pleasant little Saskatchewan duck pond in the middle of Saskatchewan scrub aspen. It is deep enough that it generally attracts some diving ducks such as Bufflehead, Lesser Scaup, Ring-bills, And Ruddy Ducks as well as Blue-winged teal, Green Winged teal, Canvasback, mallards, and pintail. I need to install some nesting islands using round bales and maybe even some roofed nesting cages as there is a strong population of coyotes, skunks, and racoons as well as hawks and ravens that all prey on nesting waterfowl and their young broods.
